Preparing Your Boat For Winter Storage
December 13, 2021What Fishing Gear Do I Need As A Beginner
February 15, 2022So you’ve decided to go camping – time to get packing! Here are some of the basics you’ll need for your trip.
First, you’ll need a tent. Depending on what part of the country you’ll be camping in, you may need something that will hold up against extreme temperatures, high wind, or torrential rains. You’ll want to make sure that your tent comes with stakes for all of the corners and a liner for the bottom so you won’t be tracking dirt, dust or mud into the interior.
Next, you’ll need a sleeping bag. Again, consider the environment and the temperature of where you will be going. You may need something of a heavier weight and insulating materials or something that is lighter weight and cool. You will also need a pillow and an additional blanket or two for the interior of your sleeping bag.
Now that your accommodations are taken care of, what are you going to eat and drink? Depending on how long you are going to be camping, you’ll need to take along enough food and water for your entire trip. Account for three meals each day plus snacks, and enough water for each person for each day. You’ll also need additional water for cooking and washing your dishes, utensils, and cooking tools.
Speaking of cooking tools – you’ll need to pack those too. It’s difficult to cook over an open fire, so a propane cook stove will come in handy. It’s easy to transport, lights quickly and is portable. You’ll need a small pot or pan to cook with, utensils for eating, and a cup or canteen to drink out of as well.
Clothing is a necessity! Dress for the weather, wherever you are going. Make sure you bring shoes that are adequate for the terrain and either shorts or pants, depending on how hot or cold it will be where you are camping. A lightweight jacket will come in handy if temperatures drop at night. You’ll also need to pack a towel and washcloth for showering (if you’ll have access to facilities), as well as a bar of soap, a toothbrush, and a roll of toilet paper.
Finally, you will need a way to navigate – either a smartphone with a map app, or a paper map of the area you will be camping. Notify someone of where you will be camping and when you will be returning. Now that you are packed and ready to go – enjoy the great outdoors!
